OhioLINK Requests

Keep in mind the snowy weather yesterday (Wednesday) was state-wide, OhioLINK did not pick-up or deliver books. Please consider the message below from Candi Clevenger @ OhioLINK regarding delivery of materials:

Deliveries of OhioLINK Books and Materials May Be Delayed

"Deliveries of requested OhioLINK books and other library materials may be delayed by one to three days this week in some areas, due to hazardous driving conditions that prevent deliveries and library closings. No deliveries at all will be made statewide on Wednesday, January 28. Before you head out to a library to pick up requested OhioLINK materials, please make sure that library is open and check that your materials have arrived to avoid a wasted trip."

Check the status of your OhioLINK request via the AU Library catalog, choose View Your Library Record and Renew Items - or select My Library Account from the Quick Links area on the main library web site.

Library Hours: Weather Conditions

Ashland University Library will close today at 4:00 pm due to inclement weather.



10:30 am: From the Ashland University Newsroom

01/28: Day& evening classes on Ashland University main campus and Seminary main campus canceled for today.

Offices on AU campus and seminary are closed as of 9 a.m. today, with the exception of maintenance and food service.

Day and evening classes at LCCC campus canceled for today. Massillon, Cleveland and Columbus Centers are closed for today and evening classes at Westlake and Medina are canceled.

Accent Room, Rec Center and Blood Drive will remain open.

Library Spotlight: Caldecott & Newbery Awards

The 2009 ALA Youth Media Awards were announced Monday, January 26th at the Midwinter Meetings in Denver. Among the awards given, the John Newbery Medal and Randolph Caldecott Medals.

The 2009 Newbery Medal winner is The Graveyard Book,by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Dave McKean.

"A delicious mix of murder, fantasy, humor and human longing, the tale of Nobody Owens is told in magical, haunting prose. A child marked for death by an ancient league of assassins escapes into an abandoned raveyard, where he is reared and protected by its spirit denizens. "A child named Nobody, an assassin, a graveyard and the dead are the perfect combination in this deliciously creepy tale, which is sometimes humorous, sometimes haunting and sometimes surprising," said Newbery Committee Chair Rose V. Treviño."

2009 Newbery Honor Books:

The 2009 Caldecott Medal winner is The House in the Night, illustrated by Beth Krommes, written by Susan Marie Swanson.

"Richly detailed black-and-white scratchboard illustrations expand this timeless bedtime verse, offering reassurance to young children that there is always light in the darkness. Krommes' elegant line, illuminated with touches of golden watercolor, evoke the warmth and comfort of home and family, as well as the joys of exploring the wider world."

AU library adds new books to it's collection throughout the academic year. When shelf ready, new books are featured on the book shelf located on the main floor, adjacent to the reference and circulation area.
