      EBSCO Database Issues + Updates

      Issues Resolved • 8:00 p.m.

EBSCO reports "issues customers reported are now resolved."

      Update • 4:00 p.m.

EBSCO indicates problem cause has been identified and they are continuing to work on a fix. At this time, individual databases seem to be more efficient than OneSearch.

We recommend selecting a research resource from the A to Z Database List and using the library catalog.

      Update • 1:30 p.m.

EBSCO is continuing to investigate the problems.  While databases and OneSearch no longer return error messages, searches continue to be slow and sporadic.

      Original Post • 10:24 a.m.

We are currently experiencing access issues with OneSearch, EBSCO eBooks, full-text finder, and all EBSCO databases.  Access, both on and off campus, is intermittent at best. EBSCO is continuing to work on the issue. Updates will be posted as we learn more. Thank you for your patience.

      OneSearch Updates

      OneSearch: What's New

We recently updated OneSearch, AU Library's comprehensive discovery search tool, to enhance initial search results and simplify off-campus use. Here's an overview of what you can expect.

      • Off-campus Search:  To provide a more seamless search experience, when working off-campus you will be immediately directed to the authentication login screen after clicking search. Enter your AU username and password, the same information used to access Blackboard and your AU email, to continue your research.
      • Preset Search Limiters: AU Library Collections and Full Text Online are preset at the start of each search to help immediately focus your research results.
      • Using Search Limiters: Instead of using the preset limiters, choose to use any or all of the search limiters to support your initial research purpose. Click to remove or add AU Library Collections, Full Text Online, Peer Reviewed Only, or AU Library Catalog.

Library resource links to the library catalog, A to Z database listings, journal finder, Library guides, and OhioLINK remain available for use directly below the search box.

Need help with OneSearch? Ask a Librarian, AU Library's chat service, is available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

      Interlibrary Loan Requests Problem

Users of our OneSearch and EBSCO databases are typically able to submit direct requests for interlibrary borrowing of articles cited in those databases.  EBSCO is currently investigating a problem with that functionality that began Friday, June 1st.  Until the problem is resolved, we have replaced the links to the request forms with a message that refers you to the Quick Link for Interlibrary Loan on the library main page.

If since Friday you submitted an interlibrary request please be aware that it has not reached us.  You can resubmit such requests using the Quick Link on the library main page.  We apologize for the inconvenience.  If you have questions about your requests, please write to us at ill@ashland.edu

Once the database links to the request forms are restored you will again be able to use them to submit direct requests for interlibrary borrowing.

      Working with OneSearch

New to the Ashland University Library web site is OneSearch, a comprehensive search tool, or discovery layer, that facilitates access to library resources using a single search box. As with any search tool, the key is to select the right resource for the job.

      Looking at OneSearch
This is a great place to start when beginning your research; it will locate books in the AU Library catalog, articles from EbscoHOST databases (such as Adacemic Search Complete or Education Research Complete), DVDs and Music CDs, Instructional Resource Center collection items, and electronic books (e-books).

When using OneSearch from off-campus you will be able to review initial search results, but will need to authenticate to view database article resources. If you need help, review Connecting from Off-Campus on the AU Library web site.

      1. Library Catalog
If you are looking for books in the AU Library main collection, including the Instructional Resource Center, Ashbrook Center, Synder Poetry Collection, Ashland Theological Seminary library collections, juvenile collection,  DVDs, and Music CDs, choose the library catalog for your search.

      2. Databases
Do you need to do research in a specific database? The database link provides an alphabetical listing of AU Library databases available for use. It is possible to search the list of databases by title.

      3. Journals A to Z
Are you interested in a specific journal? Use Journals A to Z to locate journals by title, publisher, and even ISSN.  It is also possible to use Journals A to Z to locate titles in a particular subject area (education) and view an alphabetical listing of available journal titles.

      4. OhioLINK
Select OhioLINk to view their web site. The OhioLINK web site provides a variety of resources available to Ashland University students, faculty, and staff.  You will be able to access the OhioLINK catalogElectronic Journal Center (EJC), Digital Resource Commons, and E-Book Center.

      5. Research Guides
The research guide link provides access to Ashland University Library's LibGuides portal containing research guides created by AU Librarians for instruction, research, and course support.  Browse our research guides by subject,  review some of our most popular guides, use the search function to locate guides, and sign up for email alerts.  It is also possible to access the new E-Reserves system directly from our LibGuides.
