AU Library Survey: Thank You

Thank you! Thank you very much!
AU Library would like to thank everyone who took time to complete the 2019 AU Library LibQUAL Survey.   At the survey's conclusion, 561 students, faculty, and staff participated in the survey; 216 comments were submitted and 75 students joined us for our kick-off event.

Survey Results
We are looking forward to reviewing survey responses and will present results on our LibQUAL guide in the near future. Over the next few weeks, survey results will be compiled by LibQUAL.org and shared with AU Library. Once that happens, we will be able to share our findings with the AU Community.

Survey Comments
We will review and categorize comment data into the three categories:  affect of service, information control, and library as a place.  When complete, word clouds will be developed and shared for data visualization purposes.

Prize Drawing
Once survey email addresses are provided to us by LibQUAL.org, we will select the winners of our prize drawings. Winners will be contacted via AU email and information will be posted here, on the IRC News & Information Blog, and in a portal announcement.

AU Library: Power Outage Issues Remain

Power has been restored to Ashland and the AU Campus. However, as noted on MyAU portal, residual issues remain.  Please note the following:

  • No Internet:  AU Library has not yet had internet restored throughout the building. We recommend the Patterson computer lab and trying campus wi-fi on personal devices on the quad.
  • Library Circulation:  While unable to access our system, WE ARE doing off-line circulation for check out.  Books returned today may not be checked-in until tomorrow, we will make adjustments as needed.
  • No Printing: Library computers are unable to connect to PaperCut and process prints. We recommend the Patterson computer lab or other labs on campus who may have internet.
  • Off-Campus Authentication:  We have had reports to students unable to authenticate and use library resources from off-campus locations.

Library Spotlight: Auriculum

Thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) awarded by the State Library of Ohio, the Ashland University Library has scheduled the restoration and re-dedication of the most recognizable artwork on the Ashland University main campus: John Clague's Auriculum.

This large and distinctive stainless steel and lead sculpture was assembled on campus in 1973 with support from a federal grant. Clague (1928–2004) intended for Auriculum to complement the new library's Brutalist architectural style, and to bring "interactive joy" to the AU community by combining visual, auditory and tactile elements in the work.

Jim Gwinner of the McKay Lodge Art Conservation Laboratory will complete a restorative treatment to the sculpture in late April. An open house with light refreshments to celebrate the restoration will be held on Thursday, May 2, from noon to 2 p.m., with a brief re-dedication ceremony taking place at 1 p.m.

The festivities are free and open to the public.
