In observance of the Ashland University campus holiday schedule, AU Library will be closed Monday, December 21, 2015 through Sunday, January 3, 2016.

AU Library will be open 8:00 am, Monday, January 4th. For additional holiday hours information, please visit the library hours and update page on the library web site.

AU Library: Study Rooms

Looking for a quiet space to study during finals?

AU Library has designated the 3rd and 4th floors as quiet spaces during extended hours and finals week, December 6th - December 15th. Comfortable open study areas are available to students on both floors.

Interested in reserving a study room?  

Stop at the circulation desk and reserve a study room on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th floor for a maximum of three hours. Please note, students using a reserved study room will be asked to vacate the room.

Already have a favorite spot?

Create your own quiet space using the free (disposable) ear plugs available at the library circulation desk on the main floor and the IRC print station on the second floor.

Therapy Dogs @ AULibrary



Just a few minutes with a therapy dog can help you de-distress as you prepare for finals. The ginormous Newfies, Addie and Dov, will kick off the event on Sunday night, from 6-8. Stop by every day for a snuggle.  Look for our coloring table, too, Coloring is another great way to chill out.

    OhioLINK: Review

    Let's Review ... Ashland University Library is an OhioLINK member institution. In addition to the digital and physical resources available to you at the main campus library, AU students, faculty, and staff have access to OhioLINK.  This is one way AU Library is working for you.

    Below is a narrative from What Does OhioLINK Provide?
    "Research Databases OhioLINK offers more than 100 electronic research databases, including a variety of full-text resources. These databases cover many academic areas at varying levels of detail." 
    "Electronic Journal Center (EJC) OhioLINK launched the Electronic Journal Center, a collection of full-text research journals, in 1998. The EJC contains almost 10,000 scholarly journal titles from approximately 50 publishers across a wide range of disciplines."

    OhioLINK resources are available to you from member libraries; however it's important to note that circulation, lending, and fines for OhioLINK resources are set and enforced by OhioLINK. They differ from Ashland University Library policy.

    OhioLINK: Request Materials

    Have you found something in the AU Library catalog only to learn it is checked out to someone else? Do you need a particular edition of a book we do not yet have?  Is there a DVD you would like to view that is on reserve and cannot leave the library?  Check OhioLINK availability via the library catalog! The item you want may be available at another library and it can be delivered here, or to any other participating OhioLINK library location, for free.


    AU Librarian's will be able to help you locate and request OhioLINK items. Our friendly circulation staff will guide you through the check-out process when your item arrives, provide information about due dates, and can help with renewals. Ask for help at the main desk, we'll take it from there.

    Safari E-Books

    If you are experiencing problems using ProQuest's Safari E-Books, please note the following message from OhioLINK.

    "There is a 100 concurrent users limit on this database, across the consortium. Increasing this limit is not possible at this time. Users will see an error that says Session Unavailable if they are the 101st user or beyond. Users should be able to try again later and get into the resource they need once a session is available." - OhioLINK

    ProQuest databases will be unavailable because of maintenance from 10:00 p.m ET on Saturday, August 8th, to 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 9th.  Affected library databases include American Periodicals, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, and the Wall Street Journal, as well as books on the Ebrary platform.

    OhioLINK Maintenance Downtime 6/12-6/13

    All OhioLINK hosted services will be down during the following window, as OhioLINK servers are moved to a new data center: Friday, June 12, 6pm  Saturday, June 13, 12pm (noon).  This will affect all of the OhioLINK website as well as the OhioLINK Catalog.  Most library databases will remain accessible from the AU Library webpages, but links from search results to articles in the Electronic Journal Center will not work.  If you have questions, e-mail us at library@ashland.edu

    Library Closed because of Power Outage 5/30-6/3

    The Library will be closed from Friday evening, May 29th, through Wednesday, June 3rd, as an electrical system is upgraded.  The power outage Friday evening will interfere with access to databases and the ability to request or renew OhioLINK items, but those services are expected to be restored by Saturday, May 30th.  If you encounter online access problems after Friday night, please let us know by sending an e-mail to library@ashland.edu

    EBSCO Databases and Interlibrary Loan

    Access problems to EBSCO databases have been resolved, BUT interlibrary loan requests that were generated in EBSCO databases between Friday the 17th and Monday the 20th did not get transmitted to our interlibrary loan account, and we have no way to discover them.

    If you placed an interlibrary loan request between 1:45 p.m. Friday and 3:45 p.m. Monday, please resubmit it.  You can do so either either by placing a new request or by forwarding to ill@ashland.edu the confirmation message you may have received.  Thank you!

    Aceess to EBSCO databases is currently intermittent.  You may encounter a "system problem" message or other problem.  It appears, however, that a bit of extra patience will typically be rewarded with results.

    "Due to a problem with the full text server, PDF full text links in EBSCO products (individual databases, EDS, etc.) are not working. EBSCO is aware of this problem, has made the resolution a top priority, and is expecting to have these links working again by the end of the day.     Hours Update: Spring Break

    Ashland University Library spring break hours are:

    • Saturday, 2/28 and Sunday, 3/1:  Closed
    • Monday March 2nd - Friday, March 6th: 8 am to 5 pm
    • Saturday, 3/7 and Sunday, 3/8: Closed

    Library Spotlight: New Books

    New books are added to the library collection throughout the academic year. When shelf ready, titles are featured in the new books area on library main floor, near the computers and recreational reading. Titles are selected by AU librarians and subject to the library's collection development policy which includes professional reviews and faculty recommendations.


    Interested in recommending a title for the library collection? Contact your library liaison. The Instructional Resource Center News Blog routinely provides information regarding new additions to the IRC, juvenile, and education collections.

    LibGuides Maintenance

    AU Library Guides, aka LibGuides, will be unavailable Friday, February 13th, starting at 10:00 pm. Servers will be down for planned upgrades for about 90 minutes.

    Please note that E-Reserves and LibGuides A to Z Database list may also be affected by this downtime.

    Library systems: Server restored

    The library's circulation systems and online catalog have been restored. Please note that down time is anticipated later this week for system maintenance; information will be posted here as it becomes available.

    Library Systems: Server Down

    AU Library's circulation system (server) is currently down.  The library catalog is not available, OL requests will not be processed through our system, and it is not possible to view your record and renew items.

    It is possible to pick up OL requests, course reserves, and check out general items.  For help with renewals and circulation, please call the main desk at ext 5400.

    The OhioLINK catalog remains available; to locate AU library items, use OL catalog advanced search and limit search result location (1) to Ashland University (2).


    We hope to have the problem rectified soon, updates will be posted throughout the day.

    AU Library Hours: Spring 2015


    The library spring 2015 hours schedule begins Monday, January 5th. A complete listing of library hours updates including exceptions to regular operating hours (such as holidays and semester breaks) is located on the library web site.

    • Monday - Thursday: 7:45 am to 11:00 pm 
    • Friday: 7:45 am to 5:00 pm 
    • Saturday: Noon to 4:00 pm 
    • Sunday: 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm

    OhioLINK Requesting Restored

    The problem that was blocking OhioLINK requests and renewals has been resolved.  If you have any further problem requesting or renewing an OhioLINK item please call the Library at 419-289-5400 when it reopens Monday.
    Unfortunately, SearchOhio items apparently still cannot be requested or renewed.  We hope to see this resolved Monday or Tuesday.

    OhioLINK Book Requests & Renewals

    OhioLINK is currently unable to connect to our library system, making it impossible for our users to place OhioLINK requests or renew items.  We will post an update here as soon as we learn that the problem has been resolved.

    WorldCat Maintenance

    WorldCat will be unavailable as it undergoes extensive maintenance on Saturday, January 3rd.  OCLC hopes to restore WorldCat service by 3:00 p.m. that day.
