Database Access May 21st and 22nd

Scheduled maintenance at OCLC is expected to disrupt off-campus access to all library databases on Saturday, May 20th, from 10:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 21st.

Update: Off Campus Authentication Resolved

Issues with off campus database authentication have been resolved. If you experience any residual problems with access, please contact the library by phone at 419.289.5400 (ext 5400 on campus) or email, library@ashland.edu. Thanks again for your patience.

Off Campus Authentication

Due to recent updates to our circulation system, off-campus users may experience problems with library database authentication. We are aware of the problem and are working with tech support (ours and theirs) to resolve the matter and apologize for the inconvenience.

If you need help locating article citations, feel free to contact the reference staff via email at library@ashland.edu. We encourage you to check back periodically for updates and access. Thank you for your patience.

Library Access Wednesday 6/3

The library will remain closed through Wednesday, June 3rd, and will return to regular summer hours on Thursday.  Online library resources will be inaccessible part of Wednesday as the changeover to the new electical system is made.  If you have problems or questions, please write to us at library@ashland.edu.

Catalog and Database Update

Off-campus access to databases from the AU Library webpages has been restored, with the exception of the Web of Knowledge databases (ISI Citation Indexes).  Databases are not currently accessible  via the OhioLINK website.

Although the AU Library Catalog is back online, it's not clear that OhioLINK requests are going through successfully.  If you place an OhioLINK request this weekend, please check your library account Monday to see if the request is there, and contact the library if you have any questions.

We will post an update when services have been fully restored.

Catalog Back: Off campus access pending

Server updates are complete and the Library catalog is once again available for use.  Database access from off campus is pending, we are working with OhioLINK to remedy the problem.

ProQuest Database Maintenance

ProQuest databases will be unavailable because of planned maintenance from 10:00 p.m. Saturday, October 22, until 10:00 a.m. Sunday.  Databases affected include ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, American Periodical Series, The Wall Street Journal (ProQuest Newspapers), and Physical Education Index.

Continued Access Problems

Although access to the AU Library Catalog has been restored and research databases are accessible on campus, off-campus access to databases remains a problem.  Most users, however, can get to our OhioLINK databases via the OhioLINK website.

A second continuing problem is that it appears to be impossible to place OhioLINK book requests or to renew OhioLINK books.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hope that these problems can be resolved before Tuesday, when the Library reopens.  If you need assistance or have questions, please write to us at library@ashland.edu

Catalog and Database Access

Access to AU Library resources has been partially restored.  If you're off campus, you should be able to get to the AU Library Catalog, though you may need to close and reopen your browser first.  Campus access to the Library Catalog remains blocked.  OhioLINK requests will not go through from either on or off campus until campus access to the AU Library Catalog has been restored.

On campus, you should be able to get to any research databases.  Off campus, you can get to any of our OhioLINK databases by authenticating from the OhioLINK site.

Library Catalog Down

The AU Library Catalog is down for what should be a short time because of a server change.  This will prevent ordering OhioLINK materials and will block off-campus authentication to databases, though databases should still be accessible on campus.

When the Catalog is again live, you may need to close your browser and reopen it to get to the Catalog or to authenticate for database access.  If you have questions, please call the Reference Desk at 419-289-5402.

ProQuest® will be performing infrastructure maintenance on Thursday, May 5th, 2011, from 10:00 p.m. to midnight.  Databases that may be unavailable during that time include:

American Periodicals Series, Dissertation Abstracts (ProQuest Dissertations & Theses), PAIS International, ProQuest Newspapers (Wall Street Journal), Safari Books Online, Sanborn Digital Maps, and parts of the OhioLINK Electronic Books Center.

LexisNexis Academic Scheduled Downtime

"LexisNexis services, including LexisNexis Academic, will be unavailable because of maintenance work related to the change to Daylight Savings Time from Standard Time. The service interruption is scheduled for:

Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 3 a.m. EST to 5 a.m. EDT. (07:00 to 09:00 GMT/UTC)."

WorldCat Scheduled Downtime

"On Sunday, February 27 there will be a scheduled service downtime for a number of OCLC services from 1:00 am until at least 6:00 am and, at most, 11:00 am (U.S. Eastern Time). We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. [OCLC] need[s] to take the following services off-line in order to upgrade the storage systems and capacity for all OCLC services."  Among the services affected will be the WorldCat database.

Planned Network Maintenance

From AU Office of Public Relations

"The Internet Service Provider for Ashland University will be performing network maintenance on Tuesday, August 10, from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. This outage will affect ALL internet connectivity including campus access to the Internet, and off-campus access to campus online resources such as ANGEL, WebAdvisor and the University campus website. Email will not be accessible during this time."

It will not be possible to get to library online resources or to order books through OhioLINK during the network maintenance period.
