Library Main Floor • Day 2

Update • Library Shelving & Art
It is amazing to see the main floor with reference stacks dismantled and removed. Tables and seating will be relocated to floors 3 through 6; several pieces of artwork have been relocated to the ground floor as well. The reference desk and public access computers stationed around the pole will be dismantled and removed from the main floor in coming days.

Never fear, reference librarians remain available. Stop at the main desk and ask for a librarian if you need help.  You can also email us at library@ashland.edu or use our online form to request a reference appointment. And remember, librarians are available via chat 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week. Visit the library website for additional information.

Library Main Floor

Getting Started • Library Collections
With the music CDs and reference relocated to their new homes, the next step in our renovation preparation is removal of the main floor stacks. A great team from Facilities was in today. They dismantled the stacks and removed them for off-campus storage. The west side of Archer Library's main floor is a vast open space. What's next?  We will be moving several computers, tables, and seating to upper floors for student use.

Directory Updates
We have completed several collection moves while preparing the main floor for planned renovations. To help with navigating the building and library, we have updated our elevator signage to reflect these changes.  Outside the elevator, you will find the sign featured below.  Signs inside the elevator were previously updated.  As always, feel free to ask at the main desk for help locating library resources.

Library Collections • Reference

New Location • Reference

We are preparing the main floor for upcoming renovations by right-sizing and relocating selected library collections. Reference books are now located on the 6th floor of Archer Library, adjacent to the journals. Reference items do not circulate, but may be used on any floor of the library.  There are study tables on the 6th floor that are perfect for reviewing this collection.

Blast from our Past
Travel back in time to explore Ashland College Library in 1977.  A quick glance at the main floor directory features collections including newspapers, reference books, main catalog (yes, a card catalog), microforms, periodical indexes, and of course, reference librarians and circulation and reserves. Thanks to Matt Portner, Executive Director of Auxiliary Services, for sharing this gem with us.
