9/11 Memorial & Museum Documentary: 25 Years Later

Archer Library invites you to join us in the Active Learning Lab, library main floor, to view this 35-minute documentary film from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum.

• Friday, September 11:  9 a.m. - 9:40 a.m.
• Friday, September 11, 2 p.m. - 2:40 p.m.

The film highlights stories of six individuals who experienced 9/11 and its aftermath, and includes an overview of what happened on September 11, 2001.

Main Floor Display & Library Guide

We also invite you to view our main floor display and library guide commemorating the 25th Anniversary of September 11, 2001.

Images, videos, personal narratives, and resources in this guide, and the accompanying display on the library main floor, include content depicting the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Flight 93. They may may be difficult to view.

Explore prompts and prompt engineering for research purposes. This session will include an overview of the CLEAR Framework for crafting effective prompts. Attendees will research a topic of their choice and evaluate responses. A professor using AI will share their insights.

Introducing Kanopy KBASE, a streaming video platform curated specifically for academics. This collection includes films and documentaries in the Kanopy BASE collection range from core curricular subjects like Race and Class Studies, Sociology and Education, to subjects that cater to the whole student like Mental Health, Psychology and Health and Fitness.

This webinar will include an overview of the collection, video performance rights, citation information and resources, and permissions to share videos in class. Best practices for using Kanopy videos in Blackboard will be included. There will be time for discussion and questions during this webinar.

 For Authors: OhioLINK Wiley Gold Open Access Author Workflow

Join Wiley representatives on April 4 at 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. to learn about important changes to the Wiley Open Access workflow coming mid-May and article submission process for gold journals through OhioLINK’s publishing agreement.  This session is hosted by April Levy, OhioLINK.

Wiley can answer any questions authors might have. If you cannot attend, but are interested in the content, the session recording will be sent to all registrants.

Scholastic Book Fair is Open!

Stop in and visit the Scholastic Book Fair this week.  We will be open Monday, March 24th through Thursday, March 27th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Book Fair Payment Methods

This will be a cashless book fair; we accept both chip and magnetic strip credit cards.  

• Tap-to-pay options, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and contactless chip cards are also accepted.
• Debit Cards that require a PIN are not accepted at this time.
• Set up a Scholastic eWallet to shop the fair. Credit cards are used to set up eWallets.

Library Exhibit • Lewis & Clark

Reimagining America: The Maps of Lewis and Clark
Exhibit Dates:  March 10 - April 18

Located on the main floor of Archer Library, this exhibit focuses on the mapping used by Lewis and Clark as they traveled west across the United States. It highlights the maps that inspired Lewis and Clark and the people who helped them along the way, particularly Native Americans.

Visit with Archer Library's curator librarian, Jessica Byers, in the library special books room from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday's during the exhibit to view our collection of Lewis & Clark resources.

 

AI Student Workshops • Session 2

Practical & Responsible Use of AI 

Session 2 • Projects & AI

March 12 @ 4 p.m.

Explore Dead Internet Theory using ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini. This session will include developing prompts for searching and engaging with results. Attendees will create and revise prompts and discuss responses from each of the three AI platforms.

Practical & Responsible Use of AI 

This inaugural GenAI student workshop series is a collaborative project presented by the Instructional Resource Center, Writing and Communication Center, and Archer Library. 

In this series of workshops, students will learn about the benefits and pitfalls of employing generative AI, or GenAI. While GenAI can be a great tool, it is critical to have a foundational understanding of the topic to be discussed in order ensure the information provided by the generators is indeed accurate and pertinent to your project. 

Finally, this workshop will further your understanding of Ashland University’s official policy on the use of AI and will offer insights from a professor that both employs AI and lectures about the practical and appropriate employment of AI on assignments and projects.
