Banned Books Week: September 22-28

What is Banned Books Week?
"Banned Books Week (September 22-28, 2019) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, booksellers, publishers, journalists, teachers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular" (ALA, Banned Books Week).
Interested in learning more?
Follow the Instructional Resource Center blog this week for daily #BannedBooksWeek posts. The IRC Banned Books Week guide features an overview of  Banned Books Week history and challenged books, Library Resources and Internet & Infographic Resources, links to frequently banned and challenged books for the last ten yearschallenged classics, and an interactive timeline highlighting 30 Years of Challenged Literature.

AU Library System Down

AU Library's system/catalog is down at this time. What does this mean for our patrons?

Patron Accounts - If you are trying to renew books online, the system will not allow you to login. You can either wait until the system is back online or contact the Circulation Desk @ 419.289.5400.

Catalog  - We are unable to look up items in the AU Library Catalog, both On-Campus and Off-Campus. To search for a book, use the OhioLINK catalog. Select the Advance Search option and set the location to [Ashland U (ASH)]. This will search for items owned by the AU Library. If you need any assistance, contact the Reference Desk (until 7:00 PM) @ 419.289.5402. Items are available for checkout.

Our Databases and OneSearch are all working properly at this time.

If you come across any other issues or need ANY assistance, please feel free to contact us at the above numbers.
We apologize for any inconvenience and we will give updates when available.

Using Library Resources With On-Campus Wireless Networks

For security reasons, students and staff need to be logged into the AUSecure wireless network while on campus in order to access the full breadth of library resources.  If you are using the AshlandUniversity network, even if you are logged in with an AU account, you will not be able to access certain library-provided catalogs and databases.  Some older devices may not be able to access the AUSecure network; for wireless issues please see IT's FAQ document or contact AU IT in 100 Patterson Hall or at 419-289-5405.

Users off-campus or using wireless data plans should be able to access resources as normal.

Having trouble accessing a library resource? A reference librarian can help you in person at the reference desk, by email at library@ashland.edu, or by phone at 419-289-5402. If you need help with research, need information regarding your library account, interlibrary loan and OhioLINK, or just need to know who to contact with your question, see the Library Help page.
