Reminder:  Library Services Freeze
May 23 - June 20, 2025

We are excited to announce that as a member of the OhioLINK consortium Archer Library will be upgrading its library services platform to Ex Libris Alma/Primo in the summer of 2025.

Our campus can expect an improved user experience with a more intuitive interface to find print and electronic articles, books and other kinds of library materials. As we get closer to “go live,” you will see more information about the new system and changes. Training will be available to help you through the transition.

In preparation for these beneficial enhanced library services, all OhioLINK libraries will pause requesting, lending and borrowing, beginning on May 23, 2025. OhioLINK library transactions will resume June 20, 2025, in conjunction with the release of our new library services platform. All Archer Library-owned and Ashland Theological Seminary Library-owned items will continue to circulate as normal.

Main Floor • Circulation & Reference


We're Back! Circulation & Reference

We are excited to announce that circulation and reference services are back on the main floor of Archer Library. Our new service desk is located on the west side of the main floor. 

  • The left side is Library Circulation; you will be able to checkout items, including OhioLINK, Interlibrary Loan, and reserves. 
  • The right side is reference; librarians are on-call throughout the day, ask at the circulation desk for reference help and the librarian on-duty will meet with you. 
Signage for our new area is pending, be sure to stop and ask about services. We look forward to seeing you in our new space.

Information Regarding the Return of Library Material

With the end of the semester, some of you may have library material still on your account. When the library closed in March, we set all material out at the time to be due at the end of the Spring semester. As the semester ends, the library is still closed to the public; however, there are several options available to return material.

  • The book drop on the west side of the library near the loading dock doors.
  • Mail material to campus at the address below.Library books can be mailed at library rate through the USPS.
  • Email au-libcirc@ashland.edu, and we will work with you to return material at your convenience.

Items from either the AU Library or the AU Seminary library can be returned at either location; for questions regarding Seminary library material, please email Daniel O'Brien at dobrien1@ashland.edu. Once your material has been returned, it may take several days to see it removed from your library account. Fines have been waived for all overdue materials until further notice. Thank you for working with us to ensure the return of these items.

Library systems: Server restored

The library's circulation systems and online catalog have been restored. Please note that down time is anticipated later this week for system maintenance; information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Library Systems: Server Down

AU Library's circulation system (server) is currently down.  The library catalog is not available, OL requests will not be processed through our system, and it is not possible to view your record and renew items.

It is possible to pick up OL requests, course reserves, and check out general items.  For help with renewals and circulation, please call the main desk at ext 5400.

The OhioLINK catalog remains available; to locate AU library items, use OL catalog advanced search and limit search result location (1) to Ashland University (2).


We hope to have the problem rectified soon, updates will be posted throughout the day.

Update: Upgrade Complete

The AU Library systems upgrade is now complete! The library catalog, circulation, my library account,OhioLINK borrowing, and patron authentication are fully functional. If you experience any problems, please contact the circulation desk at ext. 5400.

Thank you for your patience during this transition to Sierra systems platform.

Update: Library Catalog live

The library systems update is partially complete; basic AU Library catalog search and options to view (not renew) my library account are available. OhioLINK requests are not yet fully functional. We anticipate all areas working within the next few hours.

Beginning at 11 am on Thursday (11/15) AU Library systems will be down for a scheduled upgrade. We anticipate this outage lasting through the afternoon. During this time there will be no online circulation functions, patron authentication or OhioLINK borrowing available.

  • Off line circulation will be in place; pick-up and check out books as usual.
  • Please use the OhioLINK catalog to locate books and other resources.
  • Library account information will be processed after the upgrade is complete.
  • Contact the AU Library circulation desk if you have questions at x5400.

Circulation: Loan Policy

Beginning July 1st, AU Library's loan policy rules for circulating books have been adjusted to match OhioLINK:
  • Books circulate for 3 weeks (21 days)
  • Book may be renewed 4 times
Renewals are contingent upon the possibility of requests by another patron. Maximum number of items to check out (25), fines (25 cents per day), and replacement fees (cost of item), remain the same.

Ashland University faculty may arrange for an extended circulation period for Ashland University Library materials. Please note that extended faculty loans are subject to recall.

Library Spotlight: Renewing Your Books

Spring Break is just around the corner, now is a good time to check your library account to check due dates, renew items, and verify the standing of your OhioLINK requests. The easiest way to do this is to use the My Library Account link.

Located with Quick Links on the library home page, choose My Library Account and enter your name and university ID to view your current record. Information regarding items checked out to you, including OhioLINK and AU library titles, due dates, and holds is presented. When renewing, be sure to verify renewals are accepted and make note of the new due date displayed after the renewal is accepted.


As always, you can call the circulation desk and renew books over the phone.
